From now onwards whoever the customers who want to open a new bank account can provide only one document as address proof as per RBI statement.
This move of Reserve Bank of India benefits millions of customers who are temporarily staying in rented flat to operate a savings bank account.
Further the candidates while moving to new address can change the address within 6 months. Many banks are in move revising the know your customer KYC with instant effect.
The earlier rules of RBI for the bank account holders is to give id proof such as pan card, voter id card, driving licence, ration family card, telephone bill, passport and utility invoices so that the permanent address is verified.
The RBI further declared for the customer being away from permanent address can give a declaration stating about the present stay of address thus avoiding no proof of address. From here the bank will verify the temporary address through the acknowledgement of letter, cheque books, atm cards, telephone conversation, visits by officials etc.
Only thing is the customer has to inform his / her change of address within 2 weeks time to the bank
