The Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had presented the Railway Budget for the financial year 2016-17 on 25th February 2016, Thursday at the Parliament.

Highlights of Rail Budget 2016-17:

  • No hike in railway fares
  • 1,600 km of electrification
  • 1,780 new ticket-vending machines
  • 17,000 bio-toilets to be provided
  • 1st rail auto hub in India to be started in Chennai
  • 2 dedicated freight corridors by the year 2019
  • 33% sub-quota for women under all reserved categories
  • 50% up for senior citizens for seat quota
  • Antyodaya Express for unreserved passengers
  • cancellation facility through 139 helpline number
  • Children’s menu, baby foods, baby boards
  • concession for e-booking tickets to Journalists
